The Blind Queen

"With the golden thread woven in her raven locks, and plethora of shining ornaments surrounding the pale skin, she stands in the throne room like a marble statue, having just escaped from the chisel of an elven master. And just when you question her livingness, she twitches ever so gently, brushed by the wings of a fruit fly, so hastily removed from her inked shoulder by a quiet servant. And despite the unnerving feeling of being observed, her gaze remains hidden behind the silken blindfold, and so does the secret to her sight. "
— Confession of a man who stole a book from the old man of Tar Island.

When The Golden Prince fell, she who took his place named herself the queen of Tar Island. She loved her people, but her distant nature was laced with bitterness and a dash of mystery, for each time she was asked to talk to the outsiders, she would tie a band of silk around her eyes, and remove the signets from her fingers. She would then ask for perfume - jasmine and targorine mix - and briefly conceal the smell of blood ever lingering about her.

Soon, the visitors dubbed her The Blind Queen, and as the time passed, she grew more and more still in the throne room. She moved only when in danger, and spoke only when her words were final. To this day, each who visited her to be judged claims to feel her gaze even if they are leagues across the world.
